For Lump Sum Transactions to get Same Day NAV in MF’s follow the below process:

UPI/IMPS: If the Payment mode is UPI/IMPS then Day of Unit Allotment will be same day only if you make Cut off Time by 2.45 PM.

RTGS: For RTGS Payment to get same-day NAV Make Payment by 2.30 PM to get same Day of Unit Allotment.

NEFT: Make Payment by 1 PM to get same day NAV value in MF’s folio.

Net Banking: Make Payment by 2.45 PM to get same day here only major banks are technically enabled to provide real-time credit.

NACH Mandate: T+2 Days for NAV value to get credited in your account.

Cheque Mode: T+3 days.

Note: Better use UPI Payment Mode before 2.45 PM to get same day NAV in Mutual Funds.

Same Day NAV Lump Sum Transactions

For SIP Transactions Make payment as below to get same day NAV in Mutual Funds.

If SIP Payment Mode is Auto Debit then Day of Unit Allotment will be Transaction date based on cut-off time.

In simpler terms go to your Bill Pay Section in Netbanking and Make the Auto Debit Before 2.45 PM to get same day NAV.

If Internet SIP (ISIP) Mode then Day of Unit Allotment is T+1 days

For NACH (Physical / E-NACH) mode Day of Unit Allotment is T / T+1 days.

Mutual fund Current applicable cut-off time is 3:00 PM.

Beta (β) in finance is a ratio that measures the volatility of a security against market volatility. If you want some technical language, Wikipedia gives you a nice definition. Beta in finance, it says, “is a number describing the correlated volatility of an asset in relation to the volatility of the benchmark that said asset is being compared to.”. In other words, the Beta ratio is used by Capital Asset Pricing Models (CAPM) to measure the risk of an asset, in relation to the market, or a benchmark. The default β ratio is 1. If an asset has 1 β ratio, its volatility (or risk and return) is at par with the market. If the β ratio is 2, the volatility is doubled.

So, how do you use Beta ratio in personal finance?

What is the use of theoretical knowledge, if you cannot apply it? Let us see how to interpret several values of Beta ratio, and how to use it while making investment decisions.

Various possible values of Beta with interpretations

β < 0: If the value of beta is less than zero, that means the asset goes in opposite direction to the market movement. A good example can be gold, which goes in the opposite direction of stock market. That is why investing in gold can be a good option for hedging your overall portfolio.

β = 0: If beta is equal to zero that means the market index has no impact on the asset. A good example can be fixed income instruments like bank fixed deposits.

0 < β < 1: If beta ratio is between zero and one, that means the asset moves in the direction of the market index, but its risk and returns are lower than the benchmark. Long term debt mutual funds are good examples of this that have low risk and return scenario.

β = 1: If beta is one, the asset moves at par with the benchmark index. Large cap mutual funds are good examples of this.

β > 1: If Beta is more than 1, that means the asset is highly volatile and subject to steep fluctuations. Volatile stocks, small and mid cap mutual funds etc. are good examples.

Why should you look at beta ratio while investing in mutual funds?

Be it stocks or mutual funds, understanding the risks vis-a-vis the return is essential. Market based investments like mutual funds are subject to risk, and you should take a look at the beta ratio before investing. If you have high or moderate risk taking capabilities you can go for assets with 1 or more beta ratio. On the other hand, if you are an risk averse investor, invest in fixed income instruments than have 0 beta, or in debt funds with low beta ratio.

Myths and misconceptions about beta ratio in finance

The beta ratio of mutual funds, stocks and other market based instruments are not absolute numbers and can change over time. For example, if you invest in the stock of a new, small cap company now, that will have higher volatility and the beta ratio. Nevertheless, after 10-15 years, the company may emerge as an industry leader, and its beta ratio can significantly come down. Similarly, the beta ratio of mutual funds is not fixed either. Also, do understand that beta is estimated with information of the last 60 months. That is a long period indeed, but does not guarantee that the asset will not behave in a completely different way. Bottom line, it is good to take a look at beta when investing, but there are other factors too. There are lots of other mutual funds investment check lists you should worry more than the beta ratio.

Factors to Consider in finding Multibagger Stocks

1. Growth

There are 2 type of growth – Sales Growth and Profit Growth.

Sales is the total value of invoices generated by the company in a specified period.

Sales growth indicates the company is focusing taking orders and timely executing them. It also indicates that the sector has demand and economy is conducive to the demand.

Profit growth indicates that the company is not booking low- margin or negative margin orders for obtaining sales growth.

Further, profit is the ultimate goal of any business – More the profit, more the cash generated!
I will look for a company with sales and profit growth of over 20% year on year.

2. ROCE & ROE

ROCE or Return On Capital Employed is the ratio of earning before interest and tax (EBIT) to the total capital employed. ROE or Return On Equity is the ratio of net profit to the share holders equity.

Both of the above factors determine how efficient the company is using the capital.

I would prefer stocks with ROCE and ROE of greater than 25%.

Page Industries which is consistently giving an ROCE of 50% has become a 40 bagger since 2007.

3. P/E ratio

P/E or Price to earnings is the ratio of current market price to the trailing twelve month’s earnings (EPS).

It is the amount you are willing to pay per share for every Rs.1 gain in earnings.

To keep it simple, we would say it indicates how much the investors have faith in the company. Greater the P/E, more will be the investor confidence.

Since Share Price = P/E x EPS, the share price can grow in 2 ways –

a) Growth in EPS & b) Growth in P/E or growth in investor confidence.

Hence, most investors prefer shares with low P/E w.r.t. industry P/E.

We would prefer companies with P/E being less than 70% of the industry P/E.

4. D/E Ratio
D/E ratio or Debt to Equity ratio is the ratio of total liability to the shareholders fund.

It is the measure of a company’s financial leverage.

D/E ratio greater than one means the company has taken more debt than the cash from shareholders equity which is a wrong way to grow as it increases financial burden due to interests to be paid.

For D/E > 1, increase in D/E ratio year on year basis, indicates the company is not able to manage funds properly and is taking more debt to continue with its operations.

Ideally, we should focus on companies with D/E less than 0.7

5. Companies with Competitive Advantages or Relatively Small Businesses

Companies having competitive advantages have greater prospects of growth as they hold monopoly status in the market. Companies like Eicher Motors selling Royal Enfield and Page Industries owning all major inner garments brands in India are having command over their respective industry with hardly any competitor. Hence as the industry grows, so does the company.

In case there are competitors in the market, the smaller companies hold better growth prospects.

6. Free Cash Flow

This is the most important and the most ignored factor used while choosing stocks by small investors.

Free Cash flow (FCF) is the cash generated and realized by the company in a specified period.

Often profit which is seen in the P&L statement is not getting reflected seen in the cash flow statement.
This is because the company is not collecting cash efficiently or is having very stringent payment terms with the customers.

Or the companies have purposely tampered with the P&L statements to present a good picture of the company!
Periodically analysing FCF of the subject company will help in avoiding such risky company.

Interestingly, FCF is used for valuation of a company with Discounted Cash flow method.
There should be regular growth in FCF for finding multibaggers.

SIP Pause is a facility provided by different mutual funds that allows an investor to pause their SIP for a temporary period

An investor can pause their SIP temporarily without discontinuing it
